Black Student Union

Who are we?

FIU’s Black Student Union (BSU) is a student-led programming council sponsored by the Campus Life Department.

The purpose of the BSU is to educate, advocate, and celebrate for and on behalf of students of the African Diaspora in the FIU community. We are in solidarity with all our students including but not limited to our LGBTQIA+ students, international students, and students with disabilities. It is important for us to not only act as allies for those whose identities are different from our own, but to specifically center the lives of those that are most marginalized.

Our mission

The mission of the FIU Black Student Union is to coordinate activities and events for the student body of Florida International University that stimulate student involvement in university activities, enrich campus life, and foster a co-curricular atmosphere.

BSU also works to ensure that students concerns related to the African Diaspora at FIU are addressed to the Student Government Association and Administration. This is a unique opportunity for you to be involved in advocacy and student programming for students, by students.

Why join BSU?

Joining BSU will enhance your college experience through networking opportunities with student leaders and professionals in the community and varying industries while helping to cultivate a campus environment that is reflective of Black culture and history.

BSU General Board members receive incentives including:

  • Event planning and leadership experience
